Classic Southern Town - Southport
We spent two nights and one full day in Southport, North Carolina. The winds were over 30 knots on the ocean, so it was time to come in. What we found was a classic, bucolic, southern town. And so of course I did my best to capture some images that capture the mood.
The above image was taken on our walk into the town. We took the tender over to the marina, then walked to main street.

A derelict wharf on our boat ride into town.
Southport does have a very classy lighthouse. Unfortunately, by the time I could get there, the air was horribly polluted from the fires that started in Myrtle Beach, only 35 miles south of us. So I had to settle for this cute rendition at the town's park.
Now this is classic, wouldn't you say? Only thing that could be better is some fine southern gentleman sitting there with a sweetened ice tea. I'll bet many a contented evening is passed right here, in the lovely town of Southport.
