The area near Williamsburg and Jamestown is full of bald eagles. Many make their homes on the various navigational aids in the water. I believe, but am not 100% sure, the ones that look like this one are immature eagles, and do not yet sport the traditional bald eagle look. Beautiful though, nonetheless.
As we motored up the James river, I was always on the watch for these guys fishing.
The challenge as with all birds of course is to get close enough. Serious bird photographers use 500 to 800mm lenses. I have a 400mm as max focal length, and you can only do so much. Although I'd like to have a real closeup of young Baldy here, showing him in his element is kind of nice. Fish for breakfast!
