When I first was getting going in digital photography, all the camera bodies were like the one on the left. And I didn't have any big lenses yet. Over time, you get some more lenses, maybe some nice ones, and they have heavy glass.
Then I got my "one series" body, the 1D Mk III. These are called pro bodies. They are much more rugged. They are weather sealed. They have a built in vertical grip with dual controls so when you shoot portrait you aren't contorting your hand in some weird way. My battery lasts about 2,000 shots. Heck I think the battery weighs as much as the 20D!
When I was going on the boat trip in April, I got a new camera bag to help me haul just some of my lenses, without killing my shoulder. Hey, all this stuff is heavy, and I'm not getting any younger. While I would like to lose some weight, I'm not willing to give up the image quality and performance of the numerous wonderful lenses I now own.
So I'm happy to say there is a new format coming soon which I'll be jumping into. Click on the continue link and I'll show you this exciting new system!
Yes my friends, I'm happy to announce the Canon .001 series! This is the .001D Mk I. And that is a 600mm lens fitted on it. It faithfully reproduces a lot of the functionality of the one series. There are still 37 buttons, and it comes with a tiny pointer stick so you can actuate them.
Cameras today have 15 megapixels, even 25 megapixels. Well, all those pixels are overrated, not to mention heavy. So this camera offers 50 pixels. Not mega-pixels. Pixels. When you are saving this much weight, you have to make a compromise or two.
Some people may find the viewfinder a bit smaller than the one series. I think I'll be able to adapt. Battery life? Not a problem. It's good for 21 shots. The battery recharges in 6 seconds. Digital cameras have memory "cards." Well, this bad boy has a "memory cell," containing about 256 atoms, just enough to record 21 pictures.
When I'm out photographing and I whip out my one series with a big ol white L series lens, people know I'm serious about my photography. Wait til they get a load of this! "Look at that guy with his tiny DSLR! He's cool!"
I cannot wait to get out there and begin shooting with my new .001D. That is, if I can press the shutter.
