"U B MINE" is the license plate on this fine car. I saw the couple drive it up and park, and instantly it was one of the favorites in the show for me. I think if I was going to own a vintage car, it would have to be a convertible.
A couple of interesting things about this shot. The Lightroom color treatment is one of desaturating all colors except dark red. So you essentially have a black and white, but the logo on the wheelcap is red, thus it remains in color. I find this quite pleasing. With this subject matter, the treatment, and the lack of anything else modern in the image, I can easily believe the picture was taken 70 years ago.
Also, the angle. I'm certainly looking up at the car, right? Well this venue has some slight "hills" and thus I was able to naturally see this vantage point, as opposed to say getting down on the ground. It's not easy to remember that you should try a lot of different vantage points.

Lucky for me, this car show started at 7am, and by about 8:30 nearly all the cars were there. I wanted to have softer light. Besides the goals I mentioned in Sunday's post, I tried something else different on this shoot. Instead of looking at a particular car, or part of a car, and saying "let me shoot this with the 135mm," I mounted one lens, then did a lap of the entire show. Then put on the next lens, and so on. I found this quite calming, and an interesting experiment. As I looked at each scene, I said "how do I make the most of this with the lens I'm using right now?"
For this shot, f3.5 was the right f-stop to obtain the DOF I was looking for. I wanted the dice and dash to be in focus, but have the background nicely blurred. The 85mm is a master at this!
