Rain Catcher
Canon 1D Mark III, 24-70 F2.8 L, f2.8, 1/125, iso 200
At the nursery last weekend (same place as the Ceramics Warehouse shot), I took many pictures of flowers and plants. This one struck my fancy. A pretty little fern of some kind. As I looked over the plant for a vantage point that interested me, this one frond (?) seemed like it was really reaching and working the raindrops landing on it (well, technically, it was from a sprinkler, but work with me here okay?). Those whitish/clear orbs are raindrops.
It made me think how perfectly designed it is to capture droplets of water, route them to the central stem, and then down to the base of the plant. Very clever. This shot looks like it might be from my new soft focus lens, but actually that effect was done in Lightroom, by moving the "Clarity" slider all the way to the left. Normally you move it to the right to make the image sharper, but moving to the left can be interesting too.
Thought I'd try a little different framing too, just a quick photoshop technique. Let me know what you think of this one.
