Sand Abstract #1
Canon 5D Mark II, 35mm F/2.8, f/8.0, 1.5000th, iso 320
If you have been reading my blog for a while, you know I am a big fan of abstracts. I find it a real challenge to view some scene, and work out how it could be turned into an abstract. (Here is my best abstract from last year.)
I'm also a fan of images with limited tonal range, so this one is a double header for me. I thought about starting this post with "what do you think it is, click to find out" but I have some other images I'd like to share, so I thought instead I'd turn it into kind of a poll.
But before you click continue, give a thought to how this image came about? Is it sand recently exposed by the receding tide? It does have that water-worn look, doesn't it? Death Valley?
Let's click on continue to find out.
Sand study #1 is a crop of the lower left portion of this image. How did I get this? Telephoto from some big mountain?
Nope, just flying along, with the windows open, in my friend Ben's (modern) super cub. I really get a kick out of seeing our plane's shadow as we cruise the dunes.
If you compare the first image with the second, you might notice something seems a bit amiss. That's because I flipped the cropped image vertically. It made it a bit more interesting and abstract.
Sand Study #2
Here I did a different crop, and flipped 90 degrees. Now that you know it is sand, this looks kind of "out there." But if told you it was a cave wall, you might feel differently.
Sand Study #2b - the Bob Cornelis version, by my alter ego: yrewoT boB.
After Bob Cornelis' comment below, I thought I'd try out his left to right concept. Thoughts?
