Morro Bay (wikipedia entry) is one of the towns in my future home area, the California Central Coast. It's famous for Morro Rock, an enormous mountain sitting between the bay and the ocean. It's just off the left of this shot.
It's also famous for being quite a foggy spot, especially in the summer. It's usually noon before the fog goes away, as I was told by a couple of locals. As it is a very busy fishing area, there are lots of opportunities for walking among the fish boats and the docks. Lots of vantage points for shooting.
I was setting up this shot when Mr. Pelican decided to perch on this structure, and so I quickly began firing. For me, this image describes the mood and feel of the place. For processing in Lightroom, I enhanced Clarity and then desaturated all the color channels except orange. The original is mostly grays although there are various spots of color.
Hmmm. Maybe a purist would say that a Morro Bay image that doesn't feature Morro Rock is just a pretender? What do you think, does this image stand on its own? Do I feel a Topaz Tuesday featuring the Rock coming on?
