What is a Gladding McBean I can hear you asking? For as long as I have lived in this area I have wondered what this pottery/pipe factory would be like inside. It's an enormous old plant that you drive by anytime you are in Lincoln CA (here is their website). The factory was built in 1875 and has been a working business ever since.
Some years ago local photographer Gene Kennedy talked them into letting him lead photo workshops in the factory. These are run through Sacramento's fine Viewpoint Gallery and as I mentioned a few days ago I was really happy to sign up for yesterday's tour.
I'm sure I'm like most photographers, when I am able to take on a new venue, I'm hoping to get some shots no one has ever seen before. This place has been heavily photographed, so that makes the challenge harder. When driving over there Sunday morning I was very happy about the torrential downpour we were experiencing. I thought I have a chance for some reflection shots.
They have enormous rooms storing finished pipe, and I wandered this one by myself and found this scene. I knew this would be my best opportunity for a reflection shot. It was not hard to shoot.
I'll tell you more about the factory as the week goes on. Hopefully I have some pretty compelling images, even if not unique.
