There are a few moments at the end of the day, when if there is no cloud cover on the distant horizon, our sun illuminates both sand and see. Thats when I feel the power of of light, water and Earth the strongest.
The sun will set, but mother ocean will continue her endless pursuit of the land througout twilight. I won't be waiting for first light of day, but I just might be here tomorrow night for another infusion of what feeds my soul.

Was looking through my Mexico images and came across this one, taken in Atotonilco. A charming little town if there ever was one. And the church there is what the town is all about (see this post.)
But waiting to go in, there were several locals that were interesting. One couple that charges money to have their picture taken. Taking it all in, I noticed this nun slowly performing one of her daily chores. And I thought "how many days... years... and before her, someone doing the same..." Makes you think about how lives can be so different.
And I thought that some kind of very timeless photo treatment would be more appropriate. Something gentle and understated. In Topaz Black and White Effects, I once again used the Hand Tinted Chiffon preset, then worked with the vignette, and protect highlight/shadow sliders.
I am a bit uncomfortable with the composition, my main subject being dead in the middle of the frame. But I didn't want to minimize the scale of the building she's working in. In the end, sometimes being a little uncomfortable can be good.

I have always loved this shot, taken in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Not classic street photography, but it certainly was. Capturing a single moment, that will never come again. Many people are exquisitely dressed during the Day of the Dead festivities.
She's certainly at the top of the list, everything about her so beautiful. I also find the way the Leica rendered the lighting to be very appealing.
Normally I would find the other people in the image a bit distracting, but in this case I find they add to the feel of the image. Perhaps this is only because I was there? What do you say?

Even at ten pm Wintry night, there are plenty of folks at Pike's Place taking pictures and having a good time. How great is it living here? Pretty great!

While on a hike in Yosemite five years ago, my son and I were accosted by this raven. He (she?) was very insistent, and allowed us to be amazingly close. This isn't a crop! Obviously the shot is in color, and I had an idea that it would be even more powerful as a black and white.
I took the image into Topaz Black and White Effects and played with numerous presets. None of the regular B&W looks were appealing to me though, so I began looking around. I found one called "Prussian Dynamic" that gave me a look like it was a full moon. And really, that is the first time I though of the Edgar Allen Poem. I hadn't seen it since early college. After finishing a few more touches on the image, I googled the poem. It begins:
Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore,
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
`'Tis some visitor,' I muttered, `tapping at my chamber door -
Only this, and nothing more.'
Hmmm. Maybe there was a memory there, going back (unfortunately!) many decades? I think Edgar A. Poe would definitely feel this image represents the feelings conjured up by his poem. As always, the original is on the continue link below. Any comments are certainly appreciated!
