This one is from my trip to the Palouse in 2010. I have some friends coming in today that have been in the Palouse, and I'll be headed there myself in a couple of weeks. Great place for us photographers!
I would imagine the first couple of owners of this Chevy could never imagine it in such a decrepit state!

Not Cuba! Seattle! Just love these old Chevy's. I talked to the owner and he said he wished he had the money to restore her. Too bad!

I shot this old barn and while I like the color version, I didn't think it really conveyed the age and character present in the scene. In Topaz Black & White Effects, I used the Dynamic II Grunge preset and voila!

Canon AE1, Lens/settings, no idea! (well, probably Kodachrome)
I just imported some of my old slide film scans into Lightroom. Reliving the past. This shot was taken by me in December of 1975, in Stockholm, Sweden. I guess most folks on Facebook weren't even born then?
But anyway, just to show you all how long I have been into photography... In Stockholm, that time of year, the sun comes up about 10 am and goes down about 2 pm. So no problem for a photographer to hit "the golden hours."

I came upon this scene in my recent "junkyard shoot," and the title appeared in my mind pretty quickly. An old "Greyhound" style bus, that had been used by the Navy. Probably Korean war days I would say.
Mother Nature is having her way with this grand old lady, one day at a time. Yet it seemed to me perhaps the Ghost Driver was making regular appearances, and keeping her in something of a worthy condition. Perhaps an occasional spin around the expansive junkyard happens when we are all sleeping?
The image felt like a good candidate for black and white. So into Topaz B&W Effects. I quickly saw that I needed to darken the edges and the railings to achieve more focus on the chair. Back to Lightroom, where I used GND's on the left, right and bottom areas. I then painted the two railings going up, and took their highlight setting to zero.
Now back in Topaz BWE, I was pretty sure one of the "grungy" presets would work for me. I settled on Dramatic II Grunge, then gave it some Protect Highlights slider (as the windows were even brighter) and a bit of Detail Boost.
All aboard for a midnight ride?

Kind of a twist on an oft mentioned theme I like, nature reclaiming what man creates. Since this car is from, what, the 1950's, man's creation is doing quite a job holding out! Inevitably, it will succumb. As will everything I presume. But I like how this beauty is holding out with dignity and grace.
I shot today's image in a museum in Oregon. I selected it as a candidate for Topaz Black & White Effects because as a color image, the cycle was competing with the brightly colored wing in the background.
Going into BWE, basically I tried several presets before settling on Cool Tone III, it was exactly what I was looking for. Wasn't any harder than that.

Meanwhile in Oregon, one morning my friend John Barclay and I were exploring a tiny town, and found this hunk of a relic. A lot of character in this old truck.
