We were fortunate enough to have a ton of visitors over this summer. And I really appreciated my friends Dan Sniffin and John Barclay coming after their Palouse workshop. They really wanted to spend some quality time at EMP and we did just that.

Which was lucky for me because Dan introduced me to a technique I would have never thought of on my own - using a polarizer! The polarizer brings out amazing colors that you don't see with your eye.

There is a bit of (Lightroom) de-Clarity in this image, so that we can focus on the shapes and colors.

New series! About the Experience Music Project building in Seattle. Like I tried to accomplish with the recent Palouse series, I plan to show a different look, hopefully some images you have never seen before of this building.

In today's image, I like how the building is interacting with the cloud.

Palouse Series 2013 - Last Day

Last day for this series. How have you liked it?

This was an old garage door I found in the town of Palouse. I wonder how many years ago that last coat of paint went on? This was is a bit of a metaphor for me, a window back in time.

The Palouse is a beautiful region, known as America's Tuscany. It's very easy to get to, by flying into Spokane, WA. June is the best month IMHO. Extremely friendly people. If you combined this with a trip to nearby Lake Coeur d'Alene in Idaho you'd have one heck of a vacation.

Tomorrow I'll be going a completely different direction with the blog.

I even found a beautiful old Ford to shoot. This was on the same farm with the horses from a couple of days ago. This guy really has set himself up nice.

Palouse Series 2013 - Day Six

So I know I said at the outset of this series that I wouldn't show any "Palousian" images. Here we have an antique farm implement. But i have to say that I have not seen a scene like this one posted anywhere. I loved the wildflowers and the steep hillside as i shot this one.

How do you like the DOF here?

I have photographed horses in the Palouse a few times before, but never on the run like this. Such magnificent and happy animals. If you are a horse, I think The Palouse is the place to be!

One of the things we did on this trip was visit a working cattle farm. Each one of the people working there, a family, I found very compelling. I talked this girl into posing for me and I just love this portrait. So real. So "in situ" if you are familiar with that term. I don't know that it comes across in this image, but I can tell you from being there that this girl, in her element, captures the essence of The Palouse.

Palouse Series 2013 - Day Three

I have a little reputation in the Palouse of being a photographer that shoots while driving. (right Ellery?) Along the line of "the shots you haven't seen before in the Palouse" I present this image. A lot of the time we are on the move, a caravan of cars on dirt or gravel roads. I was enjoying this particular one and decided to get this shot. Call it "capturing a Palouse moment."
