Fun Friday - Got a Buzz?

Have you heard about Google Buzz?

I first heard about it on Thomas Hawk's site.  He has a post entitled Photographers flocking to Google Buzz.  And here is how you can find him on Buzz.  He is finding a lot of conversation and interaction with photographers, so that's why I'm doing this post today, in case any of you might be interested. Sort of a PSA. 

At the same time, I would be remiss in not pointing out that Google can be tough, or possibly even "dangerous," to work with.  You are advised to watch the following video:

So if I'm going to going into Google Buzz, I'll have to pick a first image, right? Gotta be something good. I know:

The backstory: I was at a street fair. I raised up my camera to take a picture of the fun sign when this stern looking fellow intruded into my shot.

Will I see you on Google Buzz? After looking at it, I'd rather hang out here and on your blogs. But who knows. Anyone else heard of it? Interested?

Fun Friday - Recognition

So as you know if you have read my blog for a while, I have been lucky enough to have some of my work recognized in various media and venues. Numerous home magazines including Architectural Digest (ads, not editorial).  Several of the local newspapers and magazines. A couple of nature/outdoor photography magazines. Several local businesses / doctors offices.  It's not a huge list but I'm happy that my work is being recognized and appreciated.

But recently I got some recognition that was different, but that I value just as much. I was contacted by a high school student named Bryce (last name left out because he is a minor) from Oregon. He sent me a power point that included numerous pictures of mine, and told me his story.

He is in a digital photography class.  The teacher asked the students to pick a photographer to do a presentation on.  They had to explain the reason why they chose this photographer.  And then put together a presentation, including photos and bio.

I was able to let him know it's preferable to ask to use someone's pictures, before just grabbing them.  And I told him I was flattered he had selected me, and asked "why?"  "I like what you do with old cars and trucks." He said "I have a 1988 Dakota my grandpa gave me, but I want to get a Chevy pickup between the years 1967-72."  (Bless his heart, my first vehicle was a 68 Chevy El Camino).

As you can imagine I was delighted to assist him. Being honored by a high school student that I don't even know is just as good as appearing in AD, for me.
